The When-in-Rome© Tourism project will promote Rome as a tourism destination "at the center of it all" in New York State. Working as partners, we will be able to package Rome tourism information, with motorcoach operators in mind. We are sending our Tourism CD to more than 200 Motorcoach Tour Operators* who have requested information on CD about what there is to see and do when they bring travel groups to New York State.

Beck's Grove
A 27-acre property just 12 minutes from downtown Rome, Beck's Grove is a multi-venue property known for entertainment and hospitality. Dinner theater with the Chatham Theater Company started at Beck's Grove in 1985. Today, several hundred motorcoach tours from around the U.S. and Canada make their way to Beck's Grove from March through December each year.

"A Beck's Grove Christmas" with thousands of lights and one of a kind displays (many bigger than life-size and animated) adorn the grounds and excite children of all ages at Christmastime.

Now in its 37th year of ownership by the Dunn family, Beck's also has facilities for clambakes, bar-b-ques and outside functions for up to 2,000 people; weddings, parties and banquets for up to 250, and dinner theater for 180 people.

Rome Sports Hall of Fame
A non-profit organization dedicated to honoring and preserving the great sports achievements of athletes of Rome, New York, it is the only municipal Sports Hall of Fame with its own museum in New York State.

The museum has a Racing Wing and a Sports Wing. The Racing Wing houses the Richie Evans car and two of Dave Packers speed boats, along with appropriate artifacts. The Sports Wing houses exhibits and sport memorabilia that honor Romans who achieved great things at personal and performance levels in many sports: Romešs Olympian competitors, Roman Runners, Track, Bocce, Softball, Baseball, Ice Hockey, Tennis, Field Hockey, Bowling, Boxing, Copper City Chiefs, Football, Basketball, Rome Colonels, Special Olympics, Soccer,  Lacrosse, Gymnastics, and Volleyball.

Capitol Theatre
The Capitol Theatre is a 1,741 seat 1928 movie palace which now operates as a civic center. The theatre offers a variety of entertainments year-round, including live theatre, children's productions, and classic silent and talking films. The silent movies are accompanied by the theatre's original installation Moller theatre pipe organ.

Rome Historical Society
Founded in 1936, the Rome Historical Society is a non-profit, educational institution chartered by the State of New York. Our mission is to preserve the history of Rome, its people, and the surrounding community of Oneida County via permanent and temporary exhibitions and an established archive.

The Rome Historical Society is a perfect beginning for a local tour encompassing all aspects of the area's history. Our multimedia presentation of "Our Goodly Heritage" will guide visitors through the early ice age to present day Rome. Visitors will be thrilled with the societies collection as they are displayed in both permanent and temporary exhibits. Permanent exhibits feature the Iroquois peoples, the Forts on the Carry, the canals, the diary industry, manufacturing, and early life in Rome. Additional exhibits focus on significant 20th century developments, such as the Rome Turney Radiator Company and Griffiss Air Force Base.
