Rome Historical Society

The Rome Historical Society is a perfect beginning for a local tour encompassing all aspects of the area's history. Our multimedia presentation of "Our Goodly Heritage" will guide visitors through the early ice age to present day Rome. Visitors will be thrilled with the societies collection as they are displayed in both permanent and temporary exhibits. Permanent exhibits feature the Iroquois peoples, the Forts on the Carry, the canals, the diary industry, manufacturing, and early life in Rome. Additional exhibits focus on significant 20th century developments, such as the Rome Turney Radiator Company and Griffiss Air Force Base.

Daily Showing of Our Goodly Heritage

Our Goodly Heritage is a multimedia presentation of the story of Rome that begins with the Ice Age. The presentation continues with the first people, the fur trade, early forts, the Revolutionary War, and the immigration of people as the city grows into the age of the Industrial Revolution. The presentation concludes with the World Wars, Cold War and the closing of Griffiss Air Force Base.

The story of Rome told in this one-of-a-kind format allows school children, families and tourists to learn more about the growth and maturing of an early American city. Ancora Productions, Inc. of Liverpool, created the program. It features the voice of Richard McKee, artistic director of the Syracuse Opera.
